“Speaking Your Inner Truth with the Fifth Chakra”

This week, we continue our journey together in learning about the Chakras. If you’re just now joining us, check out our previous emails where I gave an overview of our first, second, third and fourth chakras. In brief, a chakra is an invisible center of spinning energy through which we are able to receive and transmit social, sexual and spiritual energy. There are 7 chakra locations throughout the body and each chakra represents a spiritual life lesson or challenge to help us gain a more in-depth understanding of our personal and spiritual power. I highly recommend you dive deeper and use the following overview as a guide towards your research.

    Fifth Chakra (throat chakra)

Overview: The fifth chakra is our center of communication and creativity. The foundation of the fifth chakra starts in childhood. Did your parents encourage you to express your thoughts or feelings or were they repressed? Were you told “Children should be seen not heard” or “little boys don’t cry” or were you encouraged to express your emotions or cry aloud? If you were creative and wanted to be an artist were you encouraged or were you persuaded into other activities or to do chores instead?  The fifth chakra is the first of the three spiritual chakras. To be open and aligned in the fifth chakra is to speak, listen, and express yourself from a higher form of communication.

    Location: bottom of the neck

    Characteristics

Balanced Energy: can live in the present, musically or artistically inspired, easily grasp spiritual teachings

    Excessive  Energy: arrogant, addictive, self-righteous

    Deficient Energy: timid, unreliable, manipulative

Crystal Healing: Blue stones are associated with the fifth chakra. For healing, place a blue crystal of your choosing at your throat. Turquoise is a wonderful stone and can be used to stimulate, balance, dispels negativity and restores confidence to speak and express one’s thoughts effectively.

FOR THE COMMUNITY

We believe its imperative that our youth see themselves positively reflected in the arts, especially when commercial content paints a one-dimensional image of our community. At the beginning of this year, we partnered with Dream Charter School in Harlem to launch the Afrohaus Young Creators Program, an arts program that infuses culture with podcasting fundamentals.

The initial objective of the Young Creators program was to create a podcast that positively showcases the diverse cultures represented by our student population. Through learning the fundamentals of podcasting, students were able to harness and develop creative confidence, leadership skills. Students also learned about potential career paths in the media and creative industries.

As we all navigate through these times of social distancing, we at Afrohaus want to bring the Young Creators Program directly to you virtually! We are excited to expand our programing to include art, dance, poetry and a history course centered around Africa and the Diaspora. Our curriculum is designed to enhance learning opportunities for students of color, while inspiring creativity and intellectual stimulation.

If you or your students are interested, please take a moment to fill-out our online survey. Make sure to complete your survey by April 27th,. Virtual classes will begin in May and if you have any questions, please email kelly@experienceafrohaus.com.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR TRIBE

SATURDAY 7PM EST - We're playing "Dinner On Us" again! The rules are simple. Founders, Kelly and Gregory will DJ songs at random from our Afrohaus Playlist. Whoever DMs Afrohaus with the most songs will be treated to dinner from a local restaurant in their community.

Our Tribe is filled with so much talent and we want to showcase that to the world. If you want to be featured and share your gift please contact us and you could be taking over the Afrohaus live, playlist or email next!
